Poem by Joslyn Kite-Day
Her smile is the first thing you notice. Then she laughs, and you want to be near her. Sharp witted and relentlessly funny, she’s sunlight breaking an overcast sky. Now you’re laughing, too.
Close your eyes and open your memories. Hear her voice and see her beautiful face. Dolled up or dressed down, she’s always a stunner. Always there for a friend, ready to enjoy life. She’s our daughter, sister, auntie, and best friend Jen. Center of the universe to Bowie and 2 Pac. One and only mama to heavenly baby Lucas.
She still shines now, just from afar, in brilliant pink-orange sunsets and purple wildflowers. Smile and say “hey Jenny” when you see her in the checker lilies and violets along your path and trust that she can hear you. Know that she is near and holding you now as you hold her memory in the purest love and kindest light.
Jen, you are missed and loved beyond what all words can convey. So feel my heart instead and know what you’ve meant to me.
